A furuncle is an acute purulent inflammation of the hair follicle, sebaceous gland and subcutaneous tissue. The main pathogen is Staphylococcus aureus, which causes tissue necrosis and thrombosis of small veins.<br /><br />📌 How does a furuncle develop?<br />The process begins with a small pustule, then a painful infiltrate forms, a purulent-necrotic plug appears, which opens on its own or under the influence of treatment. After 10-14 days, the furuncle usually heals, leaving a scar.<br /><br />😨 Possible complications:<br /><br />- Lymphangitis, lymphadenitis<br />- Sepsis<br />- Abscessing (formation of a capsule with pus)<br />- Furuncles on the face are especially dangerous - vein thrombosis and meningitis are possible.<br /><br />📍 Why is the location important?<br />Furuncles on the buttocks, neck, face, in the perineum limit movement, cause pain and require special care. Furuncles in the nasolabial triangle are especially dangerous.<br /><br /> Treatment:<br />At an early stage - iodine, UFO or UHF, antiseptic dressing. Compresses are prohibited. When the furuncle matures, the purulent core is removed. In case of an abscess, surgery is required.<br />Furuncles on the face are treated only in a hospital!
